At the hierarchical level of all online travel businesses, this will be the most expensive and most challenging type of online business to start. It can be done don’t get me wrong it will just take longer and cost more to get started.
If you’re a second-tier niche and focus on contracting out your own lodging offerings and contracting activity suppliers, you can easily build a smaller, more focused OTA. Another option is for you to use a Global Distribution System (GDS) for air, car, and lodging that you cannot contract yourself. I don’t recommend this last option because you’ll only be reselling products you don’t own, but as long as you can combine GDS products you don’t own with your own contracted travel products, you can create a nice win-win for the bottom line.
Online Tour Operators sell dynamically packaged trips and prepackaged trips to tourists. I believe building an online tour operator business is your best choice in building a successful online travel business.
Now let me state that the name is a bit off because of the word “Tour”. There is a big difference between a tour and a trip. In a tour, there is usually a tour guide or a person who leads the tour with the participants of the trip. On a journey, the traveler travels alone or with others but no tour guide is involved. In the travel business they call it a FIT trip package, Drive holiday or Fly-Drive.
I prefer selling trips, where travelers buy tours or travel products then attend the trips themselves on their own time. The reason for this is two parts.

2. You have 100% more freedom by not actually participating in the tour itself. Just think about the time it takes to actually tour with a group or individual.
