Baguio Will Reopen its Borders to Tourists on September 21 – Here’s A Few Reminders

Baguio eyes September opening of borders to tourists

After six months of strict quarantine restrictions, the Summer Capital of the Philippines is finally ready to once again welcome local tourists from La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte starting September 21.

The city’s reopening is part of the ongoing “travel corridor” initiative wherein residents of Region I can visit their neighboring province’s tourism destinations.

“This is just a start but we can expand to cover and allow those from other areas as we progress to the full opening of tourism under the new normal,” Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said.

The Baguio Visita app is available on App Store and Google Play.

With this, of course, are a set of new rules and guidelines in place that eligible tourists need to follow:

  • Tourists will need to pre-register using the VIS.I.T.A app, or the Visitors Information and Tourist Assistance app, before they arrive in the city.
  • Travelers are required to book in a hotel that has obtained a certificate authorizing operation (CAO) from the Department of Tourism and the local government, as they will not be allowed to stay with relatives or friends as a health precaution.
  • Tourists must be assisted by an accredited tour agency that would manage their itinerary.
  • Travelers will undergo mandatory triage and PCR Testing upon arrival—the fee will be shouldered by them.
  • After the triage and testing, tourists must quarantine in the hotel for up to nine hours while waiting for the results. Those with a negative result can proceed with their itinerary, while those who test positive would be handled by the LGU and the hotel.

Meanwhile, hotels obtaining a CAO and accredited tour operators must closely monitor the travelers’ movements.
